Emergent Bodywork
“The Best Massage I’ve ever had” - L.R.
Inner Spring Wellness offers a truly unique massage experience. First off, there are two practitioners instead of one (Sonia and Kevin work together). That’s four hands instead of two for twice the impact. What’s more, half hour or hour sessions seamlessly integrate three distinct modalities: deep tissue myofascial bodywork, soothing massage, and relaxing and centering energy work. These modalities are blended to meet your specific needs, hence the name Emergent Bodywork. Book your session today and find out why our clients are raving about the best bodywork they’ve ever had.
What are sessions like?
You enter a space that has been prepared just for you. You can tell the energy of the space is different. It is lighter and clearer, there is a calm in the air. At Inner Spring Wellness we energetically prepare our space for your arrival, and maintain the energy of the space in between sessions. We make sure that the energy of the space supports the work we are about to do. You will hear gentle and soothing music playing and there may be a fragrance in the air. The table warmer might be on in case you need it.
Your treatments are designed specifically for you so describing what happens next isn’t really possible but let’s imagine…
We begin with soothing and relaxing essential oils applied to your spine, they are gently dispersed and followed by a gentle but effective back massage. Sonia’s touch is gentle but firm and extraordinarily nurturing. Kevin may continue to clear space at this time, you may smell some White Sage burning or some Palo Santo wood. You are brought gently into something that at the end of the day is more impactful than any massage you will ever have. Sonia may move to the legs at this time, allowing Kevin to begin a deep excavation of what might be troubling your spine. The work is incredibly specific, Kevin bringing the detail to the spine as Sonia soothes the legs. What you will notice is how deep the work is but also how “right” it feels. You get the sense that what is being worked on, is exactly what needs to be worked on. There is an efficiency and specificity to Kevin’s emergent bodywork that, when combined with Sonia’s soothing and nurturing presence, allows transformational bodywork to simply happen. Imagine the deepest massage you could get actually being relaxing at the same time. You get so much more done because your nervous system isn’t fighting it at all. And that is because instead of just getting indiscriminate depth across the board, or you’re getting incredible specificity delivered with Kevin’s effortless, gravity based body mechanics. That means you feel the depth of contact but not the efforting that normally causes your body to brace itself. Kevin’s body is actually very relaxed during sessions, he lets gravity create the depth and his relaxation allows your body to accept changes that it would normally reject or struggle to integrate.
As Kevin explores any specific issues affecting the legs and hips, Sonia may use energetic tuning forks for vibrational healing. The energetic aspect of bodywork is the easiest one to forget, but sometimes can actually be the most important. Think of it this way, you can release deep tissues and improve musculoskeletal relationships in the body, but if you don’t clear the superficial fascia and the energetic layers, as well as keep the space clear, the work won’t reverberate throughout the self. Imagine interrupting a yawn half way through and you get the idea. Without that peak experience, you don’t have the stillness and calm that follows. Energy has to have somewhere to go and clearing your field and the space throughout the session can be surprisingly relaxing. It is also why many clients drift off in the latter part of sessions (or earlier!).
When you turn over, the front of the legs and arms are taken care of, the neck and scalp may get some attention as well. Kevin’s Structural Integration training comes into play here as you may receive work on your core, exploring relationships between the abdomen and hips. Again, you will get the feeling with each contact, that there is almost a tractor beam pulling Kevin and Sonia to specific areas of tension. It is their collective ability to hone in on these “magical” spots that leads to such profound and lasting relief. As your session, winds down, you may feel Sonia employing some of her foot reflexology training while Kevin checks the alignment of your neck, sacrum and occiput. There may be more essential oils and energy clearing along the way, but one thing is for sure, you won’t feel that any part of you has been overlooked. You will feel like you have had a soothing full body massage, a targeted, highly specific deep tissue bodywork treatment and a meditative energetic clearing of the self and that’s because you just have.
